Customer Reviews Summary
Waters Edge Animal Hospital has received mixed reviews from pet owners. Many customers appreciate the compassionate care provided by the staff, especially during emergencies, and commend the cleanliness of the facility. However, numerous reviews highlight concerns about high costs, perceived unnecessary tests, and a focus on profit over pet care, leading to a significant number of dissatisfied customers.

I don’t usually write review, I don’t think this clinic is honest and grateful people. They charged me $1100 just to check on my dog ears and send in a lap test. I have called in to the clinic after I left for 20 minutes to cancel the lab test the next morning. I called back right when they ‘re open see if they can help me cancel the lab test ‘cause I really don’t need it. We get a hold of our regular doctor in superior . I asked them nicely. Can you please cancel the lab test .The response is, I don’t think we can do that for you, but I will call and check . 10 minute later, they called me back which I already knew the answer you need the test or not you’re still gonna pay $700 will never come back here again. Be aware, don’t waste your money .

Updated 1/6/24 Dr. Pop was very helpful. I brought my dog in because she was lethargic, vomiting, leaking fluid from her rear and lost a lot of weight. It turned out she has a deadly infection. The nurse/assistant fell in love with her and treated her like a queen. 12 hours after the first round of antibiotics and my dog is acting normal and most important she is eating for the first time after 3 days. The bill was hefty for a modest working class person but it’s worth it to see my dog in less pain. Update to the above, Two weeks later doctor pop was on point for me to find a small town vet, we don’t have to many in my area I found one and he was awesome.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO THIS VET!!! I wish I could give zero stars, we just had a very bad experience bringing our Cat in for a UTI. I was unable to bring him in due to work but my 22 yr old daughter and 17 yr old son brought him in. When my wife called in earlier the person who answered said it was $145 office visit plus whatever meds are prescribed...so we figured around $200. Not great, but there was nobody else who had an appointment available. We have had cats for years and this cat has had a UTI before, and we know he just needed antibiotics. All our previous vets have been able to prescribe antibiotics by listening to the symptoms and hearing about their prior health record. Not this Vet...they came in three separate times and ran their card for a litany of unnecessary tests (in one case recommended over $700 in tests). We ended up getting out of there three hours later at almost $500 for what was, of course, a routine UTI. When I called to complain and question the costs and demand some of the test costs refunded, I was told that I would have to wait until Monday for their manager to look into it. When Monday came around, I received an email saying that they are required to run those tests before prescribing medication, which is absolutely not true. We called our normal vet here and the one we had in South Dakota and they both said they are able to prescribe antibiotics off of hearing symptoms. This place cares more about money and milking the good people of Duluth for everything they can than about caring for your pet. We will be contacting the State Veterinary Board to file a complaint and we would advise anyone else to do the same if you have had a similar experience.BEWARE.

Worst vet I have ever been to! My dog was so sick. They would not even look at her without charging my card to do so. Then continued to charge my card before doing anything to look into what was wrong with my dog. While she was seeming to die in my arms with 30-40 minutes waits between each thing they wanted to do. My card was charged at least 6 times totaling over $600 and almost 5 hours there for them to tell me my dog had arthritis. I took my dog to a real vet who actually cares in Wyoming. Her abdomen was filled with fluid and her chest was filled with blood. Due to cancer. A very easy find for a vet who cares. Not one that just wants money. To anyone thinking of going here. I beg you please don’t.

I just recently had to bring my dog, my best friend there to be put down and both of us were treated with caring and kindness. I was a wreck when I walked in and was left with a feeling of calm. They truly to me were angels in disguise. Still miss my boy so very much.

I was so pleased with the service I received for my golden retriever. They were able to get me in last minute for a somewhat emergency type situation. From the minute we walked in, we were greeted with care, compassion and knowledge. My pup had to undergo a minor surgery, and afterwards the doctors were so helpful. Definitely grateful for their last minute help!

A medical emergency isn't something anyone wants to have. But in the early hours of the morning, my dogs pregnancy was going bad. I came in without an appointment, and without notice. They acted quickly and went into surgery to save my dogs life and fortunately there skill and effort saved several of the puppies. The expense is hard to absorb but my dogs life was saved and that's what is important to me.I can't say thank you enough to the staff at Waters Edge.

We needed a vet ASAP and they were able to accommodate us. They gave us a thorough detailed treatment plan as well as upfront pricing so we can make a decision on what we needed to do. They also did a good follow-up to make sure that our pet was well on the path to recovery. We were treated nicely. The vet clinic itself also is nicely kept up.

Brought in Brody a week ago Tues, he was not doing well. Called in the morning for a 4:30pm appt. Though it took some time and pulling out the credit card three times, Brody is back and appears healthy. The vet & staff were informative concerning diagnosis, treatment & cost(not cheap). If you love your pets and have space on your credit card, go to Waters Edge. Thank you

They take advantage of people when they are vulnerable. I had an emergency visit because my dog caught his tail In the door. No other vet was available so I was grateful for Waters edge for being able to see him. I was ok paying for an emergency visit. ($150.00 charged to my credit card before I even walked in the door) My issue was the rest of what I was manipulated into paying. My dog needed his tail amputated. I was told my dog needed to be there before 8am the next morning. I come from 1.5 hours north. I explained that I had an appointment early but I could have him there by 10:30am. They said they do surgery in the morning only so no I couldn't but I could leave him there if I wanted him to have the procedure. Then I was told that even though surgery is in the morning he must stay all day to be monitored after anesthesia and that would be another full day of hospitalization. I said ok I get that becauseI wouldn't want a reaction after I got home. So I was finally quoted an estimate of $4225.00. I found that extremely excessive but I didn't know what else to do. He was my dog, I had to do what I could so I signed the surgical consent and agreed. They told me I would hear from them as soon as surgery ended. The next morning 11 am rolls around and still no word so I got nervous and called. I was told surgery didn't even start yet and they'd call me when he was done. Now it's 1:30 and still no word and I'm beginning to panic because I'm thinking he's going to have to spend an extra night for the post anesthesia monitoring because it's so late now. I called and was informed that he JUST went into surgery. I asked what about post-op care? Is he going to need another night there? They said no he'll be fine when you get here at 4:30. At that point I got pretty upset. Why was I charged two days hospitalization if it obviously wasn't necessary. That's not all. I was charged $30.00 For a nail trim (most vets do that free with a visit for something else) I didn't ask for) I was also given supplies I was told my dog needed. When I got home I see I was charged $46.30 arthritic pain chews (my dog doesn't have arthritis) and $43.78 for probiotic chews. Both of which I certainly did not need at this time. I was told all of this was more because it was an emergency. If it was such an emergency, why did his surgery wait more than 24 hours since my original appt. I would recommend staying far away from this place. Drive your pet to the cities if you have to. This place totally took advantage of me. My other dog had a much more extensive surgery because he was mauled by another dog. It was only $375.00 and it was an emergency too. Granted he didn't stay overnight, but technically it seems I didn't need to keep my dog overnight either.

We had a positive experience here. The vet techs and veterinarian are kind and knowledgeable. We brought our kitten here for her first vet appointment, and we were able to get a wellness check up and first shots for her at a reasonable price. They were gentle with our kitten, and the appointment process went very smoothly.

I’m so disappointed in our recent visit to Waters Edge Vet. They were great when Polly was alive and they told us they did regular vet care as well as emergency and regular customers pay much less. So we listed all of our pets as their regular vet. Monday we had to bring Luna in for a UTI. I made the appt. during regular vet hours and expected the visit, urinalysis and antibiotics charge. I sent Brian with her and they charged him $80 to walk in the door, then told him Luna NEEDED much more testing. Multiple X-rays, multiple urinalysis charges, blood tests, and “prescription” supplements on top of the antibiotics. Then tried to tell him she needs to be on prescription food for the rest of her life (which thankfully he did not purchase). They completely took advantage of Brian and charged over $700 in the end. When he got home I was so upset, even the “prescription supplements” were exactly the same as what I buy at PetSmart for $9. I called the vet and asked why we were charged this high since we were regular customers. They admitted we weren’t given the regular customer rates and would not tell me why. Rebecca Keys said “Well we told him the price and he paid so there’s not much you can do now, I’ll have a manager call you back”.... fast forward to now Thursday, I’ve emailed them and called them with no response. Waters Edge takes advantage of caring pet owners, with unneeded testing and procedures.

My dog got bit by another dog and had a laceration on his neck behind his ear. This happened 12 hours prior to taking him to the vet. It wasn't bleeding but there was a puncture wound that went deep and a substantial tear that I needed antibiotics for and possibly needed stitches. First they charged me $245 for an office visit that I had to pay before even being seen, this wasn't an emergency visit this was a visit during their regular operating hours from 8:00 to 12:00 on Saturday. Gave them my credit card which they ran and charge 10 extra dollars for the credit card fee. Which wasn't mentioned before they charged it but while charging my credit card. When I questioned them about it they said I had the option to pay cash. Which I replied, not a lot of people carry around that kind of cash and how was I supposed to know how much this was going to cost. After they got their money, the vet came in looked at my dog couldn't find the laceration because from his hair it had closed back up. I had a picture of it from the night before and showed it to her. She listened to his lungs and abdomen said they sounded good. Left the room and said they were going to come up with a game plan. Few minutes later the tech comes back in, they want to do x-rays of his neck, do lab work, sedate him, so they can shave the area and look at it. When questioning why they had to sedate him to shave the area to look at it, the tech replied because it's painful to the dog and they didn't want the dog biting them. I replied if it's painful shaving hair then you're doing it wrong. My dog is totally calm, not growling or jerking away when they touch him, totally chill. They brought in an itemized bill for me to sign or decline for these procedures which was over $1,900. I said no he didn't need x-rays And if they couldn't shave him without sedating him to look at the wound then I didn't want that done either just to give me some antibiotics. Now keep in mind the $1,900 did not include if they had to sew up the laceration, It was just to shave him and look at it. So they left and then came back again with another estimate that was $700 and I said no just give me some antibiotics. They said they couldn't give him antibiotics without running lab tests! I asked why, they said to check the kidney and liver function. My dog has been on antibiotics before and did not have to have lab test done ever! He needed antibiotics so I had to get the lab test done, It was Saturday no vets are open Sunday And I had already paid their $250 office fee so I said okay. They come back in with another estimate for just the lab test and antibiotics $485. Now keep in mind, the vet has not even seen his wound didn't really even make an effort to look at it. She could have got some antiseptic and cleaned it out and pulled the hair back and tried to look at it, then given me a recommendation of whether he needed stitches or not for $253 nope! Anyway I said go ahead, because I knew he needed antibiotics. Takes my credit card again, to pay for it, before they do anything and again I get charged an extra $10 for running my credit card. They could have just held the number and paid for everything at the end.I get home and I'm looking over the itemized bill. They charged me $131.02 for 28 antibiotic pills. Clindamycin 150 mg. which is $4.60 a pill. Chewy and other sites sell exact same pills and strength 30 tablets for $5.70 which is .19 cents a pill. They included some probiotics chews in case the antibiotics gave him diarrhea that I didn't even know I was getting and charged me $62.24. when I told the tech I didn't need them because I had probiotic at home, she said I had already been charged for them. When I clearly stated that all I wanted was antibiotics for him and subsequently had to pay for lab tests to get those.$253.37 office visit, 499.91 for lab test and antibiotics and probiotics. All without the vet every seeing his wound DO NOT GO HERE. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PET THEY CARE ABOUT MONEY!

My 5 yo shitzu has heart issues and problem with fluid on her lungs. I had brought her to blue Pearl the night before our visit and they gave her a lasyk shot thought she was going to be better but still had labored breathing and her breath was 100 per min. Didn’t know what to do called waters edge and they got her in right away. After a few X-rays that weren’t done the night before she had so much fluid around her lungs you wouldn’t see her heart! They drained her lungs and an antibiotic she is on her way back to normal. The staff was amazing friendly and efficient Dr. Pop explained everything so well. We may be back as our new primary. I highly recommend this vet clinic!

An easy 5 star vet. clinic!! Three of our 5 cats have been seen here with perfect care. Foolish 1 star reviewers maybe shouldn't be pet owners. Our pets are worth the cost. We were well taken care of and will return here again.

I brought my cat here for emergency care and I had to pay $300 for them to kill my cat with the wrong toxic medication. My cat died within a week. I had to watch my cat fall over, the medicine made him not eat , and he peed on himself, which gave me PTSD. This waters edge place is disgusting. I have known 5 people that know dr Pop personally and they told me that they all had to cut her off as “close friends “ due to her money making scheme. Everyone is finding out how this place wants to drain your wallets and wanting your pets 6 feet under. Everyone wake up and stop going to this place!! I believe in karma and for you to kill my cat with the wrong medication due to your evil scheme, I hope your place gets shut down soon.

It seems there are people hell bent on getting this business closed due to personal vendettas. I’ve been with Dr. Pop for about 20 years (followed her from another clinic) and LOVE HER. She saved my kitten (who is now 18 years old!), and I’ve NEVER had a bad experience there. Everything gets explained, and they are friendly and professional. My sister also brings her Great Pyrenees there and has only had a positive experience. Dr. Pop is compassionate and cares greatly about and for your pet!

Do not bring your pets to this facility. I mistakenly trusted they had my puppy's best interest in mind, but Waters Edge puts profit before the giving life-saving care.I made the mistake of bringing my sweet little girl four-month-old puppy here the first time when she was seen for a fever and lethargy. They didn't listen when I said she wasn't eating. They gave her oral antibiotics and sent her home, still dehydrated. She didn't take the pills and refused to drink.Several days later I brought her back in because, she couldn't breathe, she was cold to the touch. I begged them to intubate her, to warm her and help her. They wouldn't treat her until I made a down payment on their estimate and signed a bunch of forms that released them from liability. The process took approximately thirty minutes which was time my little one didn't have. She died in their "care." I work in (human) medicine and know that sometimes bad things happen. I wholeheartedly believe this death could have been prevented if they had listened to my concerns when I first brought her in.I spent approximately five thousand dollars (total) for my puppy's care. In comparison, her mother's emergency c-section cost about $1,500.I waited a year before I wrote this review because I wanted to be as objective and factual as I could. I'm still heartbroken but hope to spare someone else the pain I went through. Please, know the hours of the local emergency vet clinic and have a backup plan.

Our regular vet was booked up so they sent us here when our dog got a superficial laceration on a Saturday. They charged us $2,500 for ~10 stitches, no muscles damage, not even a break in the subcutaneous membrane. Maybe they should cut back on their plant budget and stop taking advantage of people who's pets are in need. After everything was said and done we called our regular vet and they estimated they would have charged ~$800-1,500 for the same procedure. A similar call to Blue Pearl resulted in a very general quote of $2,000, still $500 less. I'm disgusted at the blatent disregard for common human decency shown by this company and will never bring another pet back here. Not that it matters to them, they already got their payday.Edited to Add: After sending the photos to a family friend who is a vet, she said to keep it clean and take the dog in during business hours on Monday. When we told her how much we paid to have it taken care of she assumed we went to an ER vet in the cities, not an URGENT CARE hospital in DULUTH. Also, upon reviewing the charges, they DOUBLED the retail cost of 2 supplements they prescribed. I don't know that I've ever felt this taken advantage of in my life. Despicable.

I have two senior rescues that I bring to Waters Edge, and the top notch care that Dr. Pop gives, saved my little Yorkie mix when she would have bouts of being paralyzed as soon as I brought her home from the rescue. Dr. Pop figured it out when another vet missed it, and now we know how to manage it, should it happen again. But since Dr. Pops care, it hasn't happened. My little Yorkie went from having a shriveled up back right leg, and she would have to rock to get up/stand, and now she has normal muscle tone in that leg, and she runs & chases anything that moves! She the tenacious little Yorkie she should be! Fantastic care of my dogs! They are expensive but I feel right in line with other quality vets.

I've read a lot of negative reviews and I don't understand. Seemed like most dealt with the bill. It is high but, it's an emergency clinic. Anyway, I thought the staff was very polite and professional. They took care of my little guy and diagnosed his problem quickly and efficiently. Boz, my dog, seems to be doing much better already and it's only been a few hours.I would like to thank everyone there for help.

I am so grateful to Water’s Edge for seeing our very old border collie on short notice! They accommodated us for an urgent issue on the same day, and my husband drove her 85 miles to get care. The vet was very thorough and took her time even though she was trying to manage several other cases at once. She got our girl fixed up and it was a great comfort to us to receive this care, which was completely unavailable in our town on short notice. Thank you so much to all Water’s Edge staff!!!

Waters Edge Animal hospital is an amazing place with caring staff. We transferred our dogs care to Waters Edge after years of being told by our previous vet that our dog couldn't even be examined without being put to sleep. Our dog is a large breed and has never had any issues at the vet. Waters Edge amazing staff gave vaccines, examined AND did a blood draw without a flinch from my dog. I recommend Waters Edge to everyone who is seeking thorough, loving and great care for their pets! Thank you Waters Edge!

We stopped in here with our dog who was having some diarrhea and vomiting while we were traveling. After a $250 "exam" by the vet which did not seem very thorough, she offered no opinions on what might be going on, and a tech or assistant was sent in with laundry list estimates of available tests with no explanation of why we might pick or choose any of them. There was no input from the vet on this either. I am a former vet tech so I have some ability to evaluate this information but I don't know how a layperson possibly could. I'm glad we went in for what ended up being a non-emergent issue, because we are moving to the area and I would not want to unknowingly come here if we were having an actual urgent situation with one of our animals.

Dr. Savanna was very nice but Water's Edge is prohibitively and outrageously expensive.**Water's Edge is offering gifts and rewards for customers who post only good reviews here. Be cautious when reading 5-star reviews. Those people were likely paid in the form of free gift or service.**My SO brought our dog in for a broken foot and the vet's orders were to re-cast it every week for 4-6 weeks. Water's Edge charged over $60 for the first re-cast a week after our emergency visit. After the 1st week I checked the veterinary clinic on Grand Ave out west and they charge $15 for a weekly cast change AND weekly vet visit. I switched to the other vet and I've been extremely pleased; I'm confident I haven't lost any service or care while saving a lot of money! The new staff is extra sweet to my dog. They've monitored her carefully and every week the doctor shows me her healing progress and make sure she's as comfortable as can be.I'm NOT saying Water's Edge has bad service or bad management or doesn't care about your pets. I'm just saying that they're overpriced and it's not your only option for a Duluth veterinarian service or Duluth animal hospital. There are nice, highly qualified vets at many other clinics around the city. I've found it's worthwhile to shop around.

They'll get done what needs to get done, and the staff was friendly to us, but they're waaayyy overpriced. There are way better vet clinics in the area. I'd only go here if it was an absolute emergency and no where else had openings. We thought the price was high because we have an "exotic pet," but other vet clinics are still much cheaper.

I am so excited to have Waters Edge as our new primary vet! They are always so very busy and understandably so! They love animals and try to save as many as possible. If it was not for this amazing team - I would have lost my best friend Friday.I will keep this short, they saved my Ruby from HGE when the vet she saw for her entire life sent her home to die. She was bleeding from her rear end and was close to going into shock by the time Dr Pop was able to exam her. Yes, we waited for a very short period of time but as soon as they were able to get to us - Ruby was the priority!I have seen a bad vet and now a great one! Be patient with them - there is a reason they are ALWAYS so busy! They are good at what they do and the best part, they love your animals as much as you do!I wish there were more than 5 stars to give.Forever grateful for saving my girl!

Well let me start by saying I usually don’t bother giving reviews bcus basically it’s just people’s different opinions, which is fine! My 3 different experiences at this Vet was extremely disappointing right from the beginning they stand and stare at you while your beloved pet is practically dying and demand a huge payment before even touching or looking at my LaPom. As I looked around at all the expensive art & decor I thought oh this is going to be outrageous it looks more like a resort than a medical facility which no one cares about when their pet is dying! Fine! The last time I brought him there was bcus I watched my dog have several seizures in front of my 17yr old daughter! We were traumatized when the DRs husband the office manager came in demanding if we gave our LaPom drugs or if he had gotten ahold of drugs! Then said “You Need To Tell Me The Truth! To my 17yr old & I! We were so surprised he was talking to us like that! He didn’t ask! He Demanded! Of course he didn’t get into any drugs there was no way! He was in our backyard when he started seizing! The bladder stones. I had 3 different people telling me 3 different things with the manager not even knowing he was diagnosed with stones but he tried telling me he didn’t have them when I seen the XRays with my own eyes! They told me they would email the price for surgery to remove the stones and never sent them. After$2000 later the next day the manager calls to inform me that my sister left a bad review and bcus of it my LaPom was kicked out of the hospital after needing a special diet that can only be prescribed from the vet. So they could careless if my LaPom dues. They said my dog can come back maybe if my sister takes down the bad review. No Thanks I’veafter reading all the bad reviews law suits and Bad Business Bureau FIND SOMEPLACE ELSE!!!! Go To PetCare Of Duluth!!! By the way it took me two attempts to get his medical records sent to the new vet bcus they were mad!!!!

I have taken my dog here three times over the last few months for an ear infection, standard vaccination boosters, as well as a cat bite. Every single time, the staff and Dr. Pop have been incredible with my dog, who can be quite reactive with unfamiliar people. They go above and beyond to ensure the safety and comfort of the client- and have provided exceeding high quality care to my dog.

My kitty got sick and there weren't any vets closer to our location that could get me in for an appointment, so I went to this urgent care clinic. The staff was friendly and professional and were able to schedule me in quickly. The facilities are very nice and clean and I overall had a good experience there. My one big complaint is the cost. I do understand that urgent care costs more and everything was upfront as far as cost and options. Also our situation was unique so a lot of tests had to be run to determine best treatment options. But DAMN! I was not anticipating it would cost as much as it did.
Kristina Cashin

We have been going here for about 5 or 6 years now. Tried 3 other vets first and this was by far the best place with the most caring staff. We have had to use their emergency services a few times as well as regular appointments. They always get us in short notice and the staff and owner are super caring and wonderful. They remember you and your pet and treat them like their own. Very warm and welcoming which seems to relax our pet as well!We hope they remain open for a long time, hard to find places that actually care and aren't corporate places that save you a few bucks for worse care. Highly recommended!

I rushed my dog to Waters Edge after he had swallowed a wooden skewer whole. I came right before they were about to close. Initially, they did X-rays and helped me out by calling around to other animal hospitals to see if anyone else could perform the surgery my baby needed to save his life. I was ready to drive down to a hospital past Minneapolis because all of the hospitals here were booked. The wonderful staff at Waters Edge collectively decided that they would stay way after hours to perform the surgery, and from my understanding, calling in the help of one of the surgeons who wasn’t even supposed to be working that day. I appreciated this for obvious reasons, but also because it was incredibly busy when I got there and one of the staff said she had never seen it that busy before. After a crazy busy day like that it might be easy to send me off to another hospital so that everyone working could go home and rest, but they stayed to save my baby and really cared about his well being. I brought him in a few days after with some questions I had and they were beyond excited to see my dog again and see that he was doing WELL. I had never had a group of adults gush over my pup quite like they did, and it showed again how much they do care about your animals well being. Thank you again to everyone at Waters Edge from me and my entire family. <3

Brought my dog to get checked out they said she needs emergency surgery and said that it would cost $6000 I said ok but they wanted the money first so I gave them my cc number and they said it would be too much money to transfer until tomorrow. So they sent me and my dog home,,she will make it through the night. If you love your pet don't waste your money here!

I have looked at all the reviews and cam say this. I have not been paid for this review. Merlot all of a sudden had a serious skin infection. I could not get her in at any other vet so opted for emergency treatment. She was treated with kindness and care. I was presented with all options. It is scarey as you want to do everything. She went back for well care check up. She is now doing just fine and i thank all of of the staff (espicially the vet) her fur is almost all back on her ear. And feet look perfect. For people complaining about charge i have a story. I was bit by a hornet and went to urgent care as my arm swelled up. It was 200 dollars. The nurse told me if it happens again just make sure you have benedril. I had a localized infection. Emergency care is more expensive. But if you care about your pet it sometimes is needed. They got me in within 20 minutes. Thank you from our family and Merlot!!!!!

Me and my wife have started bringing our dogs to Waters Edge and I have to say we have been amazed by the incredible service. Even walking through the door you don't feel like you've entered a vet clinic. It's got such a unique feel and always looks great. But the appearance of the place isn't the only amazing thing the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Yes the prices might not be as low as some clinics but I have always felt you get what you pay for and honestly I could never imagine going somewhere subpar for my pets just to save a few bucks. Dr. Pop is simply amazing the fact that she is the one and only vet in this practice but is still willing to offer more hours then any other everyday clinic in the area. The staff and the doctor are always there to answer any questions we have and if we need to get in to be seen they get us in usually within a few hours. I have never had a hospital do that for me even for my own health. I love Waters Edge and would never ever want to go anywhere else. I always know my pets will get the best care possible.

I cannot comment on their regular vet services as this is not our local veterinarian of choice, but for anyone seeking urgent pet care services, I would strongly insist that you go elsewhere .Two weekends ago we had a sick dog who was vomiting and had diarrhea so he needed to be seen ASAP. Since his regular vet was not open on Saturday's, we called here and they said they could see him right away, which seemed encouraging. Within minutes of arrival it was very clear that their primary interest was not in the care of our dog, but rather how they would be receiving payment. We had no misconceptions about emergency vet care being inexpensive, so we were anticipating paying a decent amount to try and figure out what was wrong with our pup, but Waters Edge was ONLY focused on the money and the animal seemed to be an afterthought. They make it a point to tell you that your credit card will be charged several times, depending on the services they deem necessary, to the point that they even run your card in the exam room before they even bother to have the pet examined. After what was no more than a 1 minute 'exam' by the vet (we never actually heard from the vet herself, neither in person or by phone), the tech came back into the room to inform us that our dog had an accident in the back room, and proceeded to tell us how disgusting it was. Obviously we knew our dog was sick and needed help, that is why we were there, not for them to shame our dog for not being able to control his system. After this fiasco, the tech proceeded to go on about the 'estimate' for what tests they wanted to run and what we would have to pay before they would proceed. Again , their only focus was the estimate and the money and they made no mention of what they thought was wrong with him, it was at this point that we chose to walk out and go else where. We immediately called Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital and told them we were on the way, where we then received the care and compassion that our pet deserves. All of the staff at Blue Pearl were amazing and the vet herself called us several times to keep us updated.Let me reiterate, Waters Edge is NOT where you want to take your pet for any urgent or emergency veterinary services. Go to Blue Pearl and save yourself the time and frustration.

Please don’t bring your pet here. I brought my pets here for awhile until I brought my sick kitty here. They insisted to me for three whole appointments that “there is nothing wrong with her” and it costed me over $800 in blood work and tests when she was clearly struggling. They then recommended that I see a doctor in the cities 6 months out and pay extra for the “early appointment fee” when my kitty clearly was on her death bed. I took her to North Shore Vet for a second opinion and within 5 minutes the doctor told me she knew my kitty had FIP and how to treat it. Along with this, I asked the doctors at water edge to share the documents with North Shore and the main doctor was outstandingly upset with me and told me I was being ridiculous. My kitten was days away from death and they told me to wait 6 months. Along with this I found out through North Shore that waters edge was charging us double the price of other vets. For example, the eye medicine to numb the pain was $22 at NS and was $46 at WE. I liked going here for the nice staff but I can’t forgive this place for yelling at me through the phone that I was stupid for getting a second opinion and then charging me over $800 for not even giving me any results on why my cat was dying. When NS told me it was a common disease and gave me all of the information and prove that she had it. Please just avoid this place.

I brought my dogs here for UTI treatment a few weeks ago and it was the worst vet experience of my life. I gave them my payment information and every step to treat the UTIs required multiple signatures with vague explanations. 2 hours and $800 later I had an untreated diagnosis for urine that I brought in. The facility was clean.

This is the worse vet clinic in the Duluth area. They don't give a hoot about your pets health, just money. The prices she charges are outrageous!!!!!! Spent over $700 for about $200 of care at better vets in the area. They make u pay for an exam right up front $150 just to talk to a vet. Then she will make u pY per test or treatment before it begins. The vet tech had no idea what was going on. Just an all around horrible experience.

Do not use this vet.We were customers of waters edge for 5 years. This was our first vet for our first ever dog. We trusted them and their recommendations. Like most pet owners, we would do anything to keep our pet safe/healthy.The first issue we had was that they incorrectly tracked our dogs vaccinations. They recommended vaccines and boosters when we had already had them (including paperwork to verify). They made excuses about someone new working in the office. Seemed like it could be an honest mistake, but it happened more than once.We had our dog neutered here. The charge seemed high, but it went well. We now know that there are other places that can do it cheaper and just as safe. Northland Spay and Neuter is a great alternative. This service was fine, experience was fine. No complains other than we paid more than we needed to.We brought our dog in for a small bump on his back. They said it was the equivalent of a zit and the charge was $400. Whatever, we pay it. We just want our dog to be safe/healthy.We talked to some friends. Shared our experiences and cost of procedures. They were shocked at what we were paying. Also couldn’t believe the mix up of vaccination records. We went to a different vet. Waters edge refused to send vaccination records over. Our new vet didn’t seem surprised by that.Just recently, and this is the reason I decided to give a review:Unfortunately our dog suffered an injury over long Memorial Day weekend. We contacted blue pearl and they said it was a non-emergency injury so we booked the earliest vet appointment possible. After calling around, our new vet couldn’t get him in until Friday. Other vets were booked out for weeks. Waters edge had two openings immediately. When we were on the phone, waters edge told us that our service would cost more than normal because we had taken our dog to a different vet for vaccinations since the last time he was in. Upon arriving, I was charged $150, before seeing the vet. They made sure I paid beforehand. Exams at our new vet are $70 (just for perspective). They quoted us $1500 for the injury (torn dew claw removal). This included sedation/pain meds/etc. Because I already had trust issues here, I called our new vet for a quote. They quoted the exact same procedure (with a new exam) for a range of $186-206. This included sedation, local anesthesia, pain meds, etc. We will have to wait 3 days before we can get our dog in but our new vet gave us guidance on how to keep him safe in the meantime.5-6 years ago, I could have given this vet a positive review. I didn’t know any better. I trusted them and their guidance. Now that I know better, I will never bring my animals back and I will tell anyone I know to keep your animals away. I hope this business has your pets best interest in mind, but I can no longer trust them.

I've read a lot of negative reviews and I don't understand. Seemed like most dealt with the bill. It is high but, it's an emergency clinic. There are nice, highly qualified vets at many other clinics around the city. I've found it's worthwhile to shop around.
Grace K

I brought my little Shih Tzu into the clinic because she’s been experiencing pain and on a more frequent basis. I would give five stars for the Care given to my pet, but only ONE star on how the business is run. I called in advance to schedule an appointment which was going to be for the following day, but because my pet does not get her shots there, this was treated as an emergency visit. The cost for the emergency visit was $150 and had to be prepaid over the phone. I was told then the event that I could not keep the appointment, even if I were in a car accident, I would lose the $150 and could not get a refund or even reschedule. The other issue I had was you have to pre-pay for everything. After they examine your pet and tell you what tests and labs need to be run, you have to pre-pay for them at that time. Once that’s completed, if your pet needs medication, you again have to pre-pay. My only issue with Waters Edge is the business end. Very poorly managed. I do understand pets come first, but I also felt very offended on how that was run. While I was waiting in the room for them to return, I heard the office manager disputing another parent of an animal regarding cost. Very unprofessional. It was behind two closed doors and I could still hear the conversation: his voice was raised and over riding the customers. But I truly appreciate the care given to my pet from Dr. POP and her vet techs.
Stacey Karkkainen
We were able to get our lab in for an urgent care visit. After that, we called about follow up care. We were told that even though we paid for an "urgent Care" exam, we would have to pay for a "regular" visit exam a week later as they try to figure out what exactly is going on with our lab.In an attempt to save a couple of dollars, I ordered her pain meds through Chewy. Chewy reached out to Waters Edge and never received a response. It seems like the dollar is more important than the comfort of our lab after we spent almost $600 for the urgent care visit.

We brought out pet here for end of life services. The staff were compassionate and caring. They have a separate building where the family can sit with their pet in a comfortable calming environment. The vet was kind and treated us and our pet with compassion and respect. As hard as it is to lose a pet they did everything possible to make "patient" and family as comfortable as possible. The price for the services was definitely on the very high side but considering the timing and the personal attention we received we were willing to pay more. We were not solicited for a positive review and these comments reflect only our experience with Waters Edge.

This place is terrible. Very expensive and very transactional. It feels gross to be asked for your payment up front when your furry friend is bleeding out. 'OH you need to see a vet? Let me get that credit card for $150'. 'Looks like you need an xray... let me get that card again for $500'.'Checking out? Hand me that card one last time for some meds'. Horrible business model.Imagine coming here in the final minutes of your pets life (like my daughter did) and have them ask for and run your credit card literally while your pup is dying. Very traumatic.

This place cares for one thing only and that is money. $150 receipt in your hand before they even ask for your dogs name. I brought my dog in during business hours and was informed my dog would need a surgery so, they put together a estimate and handed it over. Clearly distraught over the $4300 quote I received, I asked “Is this a typical cost for this procedure?” and was blatantly lied to when she said “Yes”. I trusted their expertise and with that my lack of knowledge, was taken advantage of. I scheduled an appointment with Waters Edge for the next day and they asked that the $4300 payment be made before I left because they knew a simple Google search would show the true cost. I called my vet from our hometown shortly after and received a quote for $500 and a next day appointment. To top this all off, my dog slipped out of the bandage that they applied to the open wound WITH THE BONE EXPOSED and both the tech and doctor told us we were free to go and walked out without readdressing the wound. This place was our only option we had at the time and to say they were a disappointment in an understatement.

Stressed because your pet is having a medical emergency? Worried about your furry friend’s well-being? Great! You’ll be easier to fleece for hundreds or thousands of dollars in your heightened emotional state. Luckily, they’re the only emergency vet in Duluth that’s open during daylight, so they must make out like bandits. The nurse who nickel and dimed me also had an attitude, like I was putting her out by asking them to help my dog.I should have read the other reviews before coming here. I am disgusted that the business tries to fire back at all the customers leaving negative reviews as if it’s never their fault for taking advantage of people.

As the owner of four dogs, it is important to us to have a vet we are comfortable with. We had to use the Urgent Care services at Waters Edge for our accident-prone dog multiple times and always had an outstanding experience with the staff. Because of their amazing care, we have decided to make Waters Edge our primary care veterinarian for all of our pets. Our dog, Hope, had a recent severe injury that required boarding and the staff couldn’t have made us feel more comfortable about leaving Hope with them. They give the same love and care to our pets that we give them at home. They have always been able to get us in when Hope needed to been seen immediately, and their evening and Saturday hours make it much easier on our schedules. We would highly recommend Waters Edge Animal Hospital to anyone and will continue to go to them for all future vetting and emergencies.

let me start off by saying that they were great with my anxious cat & had quick service, but man are they outrageously charging people. Their exam is twice as much (150$) as other places i've now called, and so are their xrays and medicines etc. I brought my cat in for a Uti and with the exam, urine analysis, and antibiotics i spent almost $600. They kept pushing xrays but that was another $4-500 so i declined for now. You can tell right when you walk in & in the room that they are not short on money and have quite a large budget for their interior design. large expensive canvases on the walls & not the usual patient room furniture. The ambiance is nice but its unfortunate they up-charge so much to buy things like that. Anyways, brought my cat to a different vet because the meds didn't work & that place used an ultrasound right away & found crystals in her bladder & gave her a different antibiotic for a fraction of the cost & suggested a different food & nooo mention of xrays. which i asked ahead of time how much just incase & they were under $200. At the new vet i spent less then $300 for the visit, the ultrasound, a shot, & meds. to sum it up, i would not bring your pet here unless it is an absolute emergency and the only place open. or you like wiping your a$$ with your money.

This place is a total scam. Would not recommend to my worst enemy, they don’t care about your pets just money. Made us do three separate transactions and 3% surcharge each transaction. Fear mongered us into thinking our dog was tick sick so we would pay for a tick test when we told him he hurt his ankle from running at the park. Took our dog to get tick tested and told us it was negative (didn’t even show results) and didn’t even ask for an X-ray which they were pushing on us at the beginning . Then telling us if it was broke he wouldn’t even be able to put pressure on it. They got the money from the tick test and could have cared less. Pushed us to pay for pain relief meds which came out to 71$ with 3% surcharge and only 30$ on Amazon wouldn’t have that been nice to know. Don’t waste your time this place is a complete joke.

Total of almost $1800 after all said and done for a broken toe nail on my dog (emergency for me because I felt bad for my dog) but not truly an emergency. 2 stars because I was able to get pain relief meds for $130 until she can be seen this week be her normal vet. The ‘surgery’ was described to me as ‘just trimming the nail back.’ So $1800 for nail trim! Staff was friendly and facility was clean. Blue pearl charged me $350 when this happened last year but they’re only taking critical patients at this time.

Bryza L.
The staff were great and they literally saved my dog's life after she ate Ibuprofen. So I really can't give them a bad review because my dog is alive and well and without any kidney damage. My only problem is the cost. It was an EXPENSIVE bill. Which is pretty typical with emergency pet hospitals, but you'd think they'd take into account the fact that they're located in an area where the cost of living and pay is pretty low. I didn't have many options since pretty much all vet clinics were closed when it happened, so it was worth every dime to have my dog still here with me, but it's something you should prepare for. I'm just glad I had an emergency fund for this kind of stuff.

My dog went into labor early October (2016) and after hours of pushing she became lethargic, her breathing became shallow and her pulse erratic. I brought her in to Waters Edge and was horrified with how we were treated, it was apparent from the get go they were only interested in my money. They brought us into an exam room but refused to even acknowledge her until I paid $500 up front! This was after one of the techs commented on how "she's not doing well". I was literally 12 hours away from getting paid and only had a hundred dollars to my name, they wouldn't work with me on payment. I made arrangements to have my hubby (who was over the road working) to pay via credit card over the phone, they wouldn't accept the payment. When I asked if they were just not going to do anything and let us sit there while my dog was dying they brought a pet credit application into the exam room and told me I could apply for that, while filling it out they checked on me (not my pet) 3 times to see if I had it completed! I walked out after the third check and went to Affiliated Emergency Vet Service on Grand and 23rd. As soon as I entered Affiliated doors we were treated like patients and not seen as dollar signs, they even accepted payment via my hubby over the phone! Waters Edge ought to be ashamed of themselves. Placing value on cash over the well being of a beloved pet does not make for a good vet service. After seeing they were offering gift cards and discounts on vet services in exchange for reviews, I felt I needed to get our story out there. If you're a long time customer good on ya, if you're looking to establish a vet for your pet I caution you to look else where.*SIDEBAR* It seems that Waters Edge tendency is to respond to negative reviews with "I'm sorry but we don't have you in our records". Let me make a preventative statement to you now Waters Edge, we came in under my hubbys name.
D Kim Olson
Although they are, indeed, expensive, I was not surprised as they are an emergency/urgent care pet hospital. We were there because our vet was out of town and I considered my dog’s situation to be an emergency. They were very up front about their fees and I was provided choices for which procedures they might do in case I wished to forego any tests. When given a choice to either give IV fluids at home, or have them do it, I opted to save some money by giving the IV treatments at home myself. They provided the equipment and instructions. I would not hesitate to come here again. Very kind and professional staff.

Had a appt with blue pearl was quoted 900-1100 for stitches. Figured we would try waters edge to save money. Boy were we wrong 2800.00 later for stitches . They called 44 minutes after leaving saying he's done then told me we needed antibiotics that added 186.00 to bill. There was a customer in there that used them all the time crying cause they charged her 750 to diagnose a uti on cat. So they do this to everyone. Go to blue pearl where you will be treated right. But thanks for the stitches. But I will never be back to this location. They know your in need and rob you blind.

I brought my cat, Phantom, in for an animal bite on his back that had become infected. Dr. Pop and her staff did a wonderful job getting him fixed up. What started out as a really nasty wound and infection has turned completely around and is almost healed. Thank you!

A great veterinarian and a great boarding facility. The staff and Dr. are amazing every time we come in. Prices are very reasonable and they offer urgent care services after hours, which are surprisingly very reasonably priced as well. They took great care of my dog during a boarding stay. Since they only board four animals at a time, they are able to pay extra attention to each animal, which shows! Highly recommend.

This place is absolutely amazing. When my dog got attacked by another dog I called them and they got him in right away. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They made my dog feel comfortable and at ease after the ordeal he went through. He had to have surgery and that was pretty expensive but it was well worth it to know my dog was properly taken care of. I brought him back in a couple times in the weeks following the procedure and they never charged me for the additional visits, just for the medications that my dog needed. The experience I had here was nothing but good. I highly recommend this place.

My husband and I have a 1 year old Golden, who suddenly was just not herself. Didn’t want to play let alone move and wouldn’t eat. We brought her in an hour before they close and everyone was so kind. The calm demeanor the staff had was very relieving in such a stressful time. They didn’t show us a sense of annoyance to have us out because of how close it was to closing time. They did an exam and gave us all the recommended test and said we can do them all of just pick some of them if money is tight. They didn’t pressure us and didn’t hit us with a surprise bill, I liked how up front they were. They also explained what every test would show and how it related to our dogs symptoms. It turned out to be a lung infection, they gave us medicine and 3 days later she is way better. So thank you guys for all your help.
kile sym
Emptied my bank account with two test and charged me $500 just to get antibiotics. Added extra test that was not necessary to diagnose my cats swollen gland. The manager (who isn't a vet) added a bunch of extra unnecessary medicines to prescription. The vet technicians love animals but aren't allowed to properly care for them without the managers consent. They tried to say there were shortages for the medicines to put cats under and that they were the only ones with certain medicines. This place should close down so the vet will be free to save animals at a caring clinic.

Just listen to the bad reviews and don’t go here. Walking in without doing prior research I felt uncomfortable so I looked up the reviews while waiting to see the vet. After my suspicions being validated by the reviews I took my cat and headed out the door. The front desk person followed me to my car and insisted they treat my cat. I told them it was nothing against them the reviews just rubbed me the wrong way. He said he wanted to explain why the reviews were what they are. (This was weird to me? Reviews are a thing for a reason, they don’t need explaining.) After going back inside since availability elsewhere was basically non-existent the vet examined him and of course the reality of the situation was true. I can agree they were expensive but giving my baby a chance was worth it. After about an hour of being seen they called me saying he passed and asked if I wanted him or they could take care of his body. I found this hurtful as I’d expect some sympathy from a vet. When we picked him up they placed him in a box in the blanket we brought him in. They left the bloody catheter in him that was used in an attempt to flush him. This is where I lost the respect. They returned my cat to me with the bloody catheter still in him. Why? I don’t know. He was dead and they would do no more harm by taking it out. When he got home I removed the catheter and blood spewed everywhere and the mess was traumatic. I don’t understand why a veterinarian would leave it in, being the owner is already grieving enough it didn’t make the situation any better..

It was behind two closed doors and I could still hear the conversation: his voice was raised and over riding the customers. But I truly appreciate the care given to my pet from Dr. POP and her vet techs.

I would definitely recommend Waters Edge! Unlike other places , there is never a long wait in the lobby before being roomed with your pet. Dr Pop and her staff are always kind and accommodating. Yesterday I called there crabby because my dog was all out of his thyroid medication. They said he did need to be seen for repeat lab work because it hadn’t been done in a long time. They waived the urgent care fee and let us come in for office visit right away. Another time when my dog ate An entire pan of kids play kinetic sand and became horribly sick they were able to get him in right away and administer activated charcoal so he made a full recovery. I’ve been bringing my 2 dogs here for over 4 years and always appreciate the kind prompt care we receive! They have great hours too!

Super disappointed with this place. I honestly wouldn’t give them a one star if I didn’t have to. When the vet came out to tell us our dog had died he was pretty unfeeling and business like about the whole thing even though my husband and I were obviously very emotional. She had some kind of heart attack or something at the park so we rushed her there. We were in shock and really upset because she was a seemingly healthy dog. The vet just asked us if we wanted her cremated or her paw print, like he was taking our food order. They wouldn’t even give us 5 minutes to run home to get a blanket to wrap her in, so we could take her home and bury her. They made us feel rushed. None of the staff gave us any kind of condolences. Anyway, it was really upsetting. It’s too bad they are the only emergency animal service in town.

This place saved my dog's life. The staff there is friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Pop was very easy to work with, knowledgeable, and compassionate. The gentlemen we had as a vet tech was phenomenal. He was to the point but also at our level. He made sure we had all the information we needed and how to proceed. We came back another time from the cities for a follow up. I will continue to come here for my dog's future veterinary needs.

I moved here from out of state and my cat has an autoimmune disorder. Duluth does not have any specialty vets so I am so happy I found dr pop! She was able to take on his case and continues to give him the care he needs! She is a wonderful doctor and she actually cares about her patients! Her staff is lovely as well and super friendly and accommodating! If you want a place that your pet is treated like family definitely go to waters edge! 10/10 would recommend!

This is my second visit to Waters Edge for urgent care treatment of a pet and I couldn’t be happier with the care and knowledge provided by the staff. Our 2 year old boxer took a turn for the worse after a morning trip to the vet with no answers. We made the decision to go the Water’s Edge for emergency care due to his condition deteriorating. We were seen promptly. He and I were both treated with empathy and kindness. He was treated and sent home to rest. All records were forwarded to our family vet. He is feeling much better today and we are so thankful for the remarkable care he was given. They encouraged me to call with any questions or concerns and were happy to follow up with us. Thank you for all your patience and understanding. Dr Pop and the staff deserve all 5 gold stars.

My cat fell ill in November, 2018 and my cousin recommended Waters Edge. The care and compassion my fur-baby received was wonderful. Dr Pop and staff were patient with me as I learned how to do my baby’s “treatments” going forward the next three months. Sadly, I had to send my baby to heaven nine days ago. I was lead into a separate building and I was wondering why and where we were going. This private building has a rustic feel to it with a main room, staff room, and two separate rooms; one is a bedroom. The staff even made up a board for my baby with a nice message on it. It’s never easy having to send a fur-baby up to heaven, but the staff and Dr Pop made the experience private, comfortable, caring, compassionate, kind, respectful, and dignified. It was a wonderful experience and I’ll never forget it; as I won’t forget the caring people who work at Waters Edge. They’re now my friends, in my opinion. This will be my regular vet in the future for my other fur-baby. Waters Edge staff are very special people. Highly recommend.

Vacationing with my pups and playing on the beach when one of them got a bad cut/laceration to her chest. By the time I noticed, the wound was already filthy and full of sand. In a panic living hours away not knowing where to go, I called Waters Edge and they were able to get us in. The receptionist did her best to ease my panic over the phone. It did take a while for the Doc to come in-understanding we were added in as an emergency. The vet tech working with us was a little awkward but meant well. She said: we do these surgeries all the time, your dog won't die. In the end glad she was right. They were able to get my pup fixed up within a couple of hours, they kept in contact while my pup was there. Overall it was a great experience. Very compassionate, very dedicated to the work and care they provide, and we are so thankful we found them!- I was also scared her injury was going to leave a big nasty mark. The injury looked like a bear had mauled her chest. The suturing job looked like Frankenstein's face, pretty well for the extent of the tissue injury. It healed beautifully! You would never be able to tell she ever had an injury there. Just some mild scarring underneath the fur. You are our vet away from home now!

The Waters Edge Vet clinic is great. I have an Australian Shepherd and two cats. The front counter service is always very friendly. My animals and I are treated very well. My cat recently had a bladder infection. The staff was very clear on what my options were and how much it would cost. I ended up keeping my cat over the weekend. They called once or twice a day to let me know how my cat was doing. I always recommend Waters Edge Veterinary Clinic to my friends.

We took our dog here because of an emergency. It was during normal hours on a weekday. Do not take your pet here unless it's life threatening. I did not look at the reviews and should of. They were playing on my emotions and presented me an estimate of $1786.00 for what turned out to be a hotspot. I refused any treatment after paying $150 just for the initial consult. I called my vet in the cities and ended up driving to the cities to get my dog treated. Ended up only costing me $360 at my vet n the cities. I will never bring any pet to this vet as they are sketchy and take advantage of you. It's just ridiculous and pathetic they practice this way! THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!!! CAROL B. (SPOUSE)

They have charged my sister over $2000 and our Ezra still has problems. I swear they misdiagnosed him all the times he has been there and we will be reporting them to the BBB! They we rude to my sister and accused her of the dog getting into drugs! They are very unprofessional and should be shut down! Shame on you!

What a terrible experience. If you care about your dog or cat do NOT go to Waters Edge Animal Hospital. I had to prepay $300 before an incredibly rude receptionist would even let me speak to the vet about my dog. 2 different tests were done and a diagnosis was given. Medication was administered and I left with my dog after paying an additional $260.After 5 days without any change in my dog's symptoms I brought him somewhere else. The vet had MISDIAGNOSED my 8-pound dog and given him high doses of unnecessary medication. The second opinion we received also stated that one of the tests was 100% unnecessary - Water's Edge took advantage of our concern and desire for a dog's well-being.

I have visited Water’s Edge numerous times with numerous pets, mostly related to eye lacerations. I’ve been very satisfied with their ability to see pets same day and with the care received. I expect to pay more for the convenience of emergency or same day care. They are the only vet clinic I’ve reached out to that makes same day appointments. I’ve rarely had to wait. Please be patient with your vets and technicians these days. They are stressed and stretched to the limit just like other health care professionals. Many vets don’t make “sick pet” appointments. There may be numerous tests/X-rays etc to run to rule out or narrow down your pet’s illness. Many vets have days or weeks-long waits for vet care so I am always appreciative of the customer care at Water’s Edge. They also carry great dog foods that can only be found at veterinary clinics. I hope you don’t need emergency care; if your pet requires this care, you are sure to get the immediate care you need at Water’s Edge.

I was grateful that I brought my dog here. I was terrified because I had no idea what was wrong with him. It started at 8pm. By 4 or 5am he was getting worse and worse. The only 24hr clinic around was closed on Tuesdays. His regular Dr was In surgery and couldn't see him until 2pm. This clinic is THE ONLY ONE that didn't say sorry no new patients. They said we will squeeze you in when you get here. I was coming from an hour and a half away. I got there they squeezed me in. They examined him, took blood, he peed all over the poor girl, she said that's my job dont worry about it. He was a very sick dog, they took care of him, when no one else would. Did I wait yes, was it expensive yes. I waited because they squeezed me in when they could. ANY medical exam and lab test is expensive. I am happy I went there and happy he is now OK! THANK YOU!

My 9 year old cockatiel was diagnosed with a URI from Waters Edge. My regular vet told me 1 week to get him in and I had to explain to them birds can die in 24 hours after showing illness! My bird was blowing snot everywhere and lethargic and wobbly. Thankfully I was blessed with the team at Waters Edge. They made me feel important and told me birds are fragile and lets get him in tomorrow morning, then they quickly said you know what-- come in today. They gave him antibiotics and they even said if birds don't eat when sick they can get hypoglycemic. And they gave me a sugar supplement as well until he starts eating. They thought of everything. Thank you for saving my Xerxes! 🙏🙏❤❤BTW to people who complain about the cost it is an Urgent Care! their 145 fee is because they are an URGENT animal care service. Let's appreciate that they are open and have the ability to see us short notice. Especially when vets are not seeing new clients these days.

Their prices seem steep and their money down payment kinda sucks though sadly with a lot of people no showing and wasting time they could've been making helping another animal I get the need. Though I think it's a bit horrible to keep the money held if my pet dies before I get there. Yea I asked and they confirmed that is included in non refundable. I had a sugar glider who was 8.5 years old with labored breathing and lethargic. They seemed knowledgeable but then when the Vet came in she told me they don't deal with sugar gliders much and had to look some things up. Since nothing but writing meds was done it sucks to pay 150 plus 88 bucks just for meds. I can weight my sugar glider at home and Google him symptoms just like them and get the same results only save myself some money. I picked this vet because they do urgent care and were told they were knowledgeable with sugar gliders while my normal vet couldn't see them that day who is very knowledgeable in exotics. Unfortunately my sugar glider passed away that same night. Called about cremation and found it would be $227 for such a small creature. Disheartening. The staff seemed nice. The building and set up is beautiful. Just wish I knew prior to the visit that the vet wasn't specialized in sugar gliders.

Water’s Edge has been nothing but wonderful to my dog. Their staff is friendly and they care about you and your pet. They are there for you and your pet from beginning and sadly the end. They care. Dr. Pop and her staff awe awesome and I totally recommend them.

We sent a kitten that we found in the alley up there for a scheduled wellness check. They informed us it was going to be $165 upfront for the wellness check. We informed them that the kitten has fleas. They told us they were going to clean and remove the fleas for us and that it was going to be an additional charge. At the end of the visit we ended up getting charged with a $400 dollar bill. The kitten did not get cleaned up and the fleas were not removed, instead they provided us a bottle of medication to use on the kitten for us to remove ourselves. The extra $200-ish dollars we were charged was simply a charge for the room we occupied... which we were not informed when we scheduled the appointment there would be additional fees as such or were informed on during the appointment.

My partner called to schedule a check up for our Canary Winged Parakeet and was then scheduled for the same afternoon WITHOUT informing us that a same day appointment is drastically more expensive than a normal exam. This was not an emergency, we just wanted a regular check-up. Also, the person who scheduled the appointment said nothing about how there is no Avian Vet at this clinic. When I brought my bird in, he was returned to me with a packet of information about an entirely different breed of bird, and it was only then that I was informed that the vet was not accustomed to bird care. The vet tech had to go back to inform them that they had assumed he was the incorrect breed (even though we told them his breed when the appointment was made) and we had been given inaccurate advice due to this. She did return with an accurate packet later, but because of the mistake I'm wary of the quality of the exam. This is also when I became aware that we had mistakingly been given an emergency appointment instead of a regular exam. The only reason we came here was because this is the clinic that the pet store advised, which we now realize was a mistake. I wish the website had been more clear about which animals this vet specializes in.When I expressed my concerns and frustrations to the tech who was at my car, she said she would do her best to get my card charge changed to match the price of a normal appointment. I hold no ill will against her and I'm sure she tried the best she could. However, they refused to change it to the correct price and they yelled at and hung up on my partner this evening when we were called to inform us "there's nothing they can do now." They were extremely unprofessional, inflexible, and they should be embarrassed.I will never recommend this clinic and their hidden up-charges, unprofessionalism, greed, and total lack of communication to admit that they know little about our kind of bird and that we would do better in a different vet's care, which they didn't say until after I had been charged. If they had been upfront about their lack of specialization I would hold them in extremely high regard, but they were not.

$550 to euthanize a dog? I was a customer for several years with several dogs and paid their exorbitant prices. When it came time to put down our sweet boy they wanted $550. Silvio (?) Said they have their own funeral home on site and have to pay taxes and insurance and that’s why it’s so expensive. Wow . I went to Duluth veterinary Hospital and they treated our experience with compassion and concern - for $200 which included a dog paw print. Water’s Edge will never receive another penny from me .

Our giant breed dogs have been seen by Dr. Pop for a number of years. We have had incredibly challenging medical situations as well as routine. Dr. Pop, along with her staff, has been exceptional. She has provided us (our dogs) excellent medical treatment, comprehensive care, medical education and perhaps most importantly, compassion. We have been impressed and grateful experiencing how hard the staff works to get unwell animals seen as soon as possible. Highly recommend!

CAROL B.

Water Edge animal hospital has gone above and beyond my expectations every time I bring my two dogs there. The staff has been very courteous and helpful. Whenever I may have a random question regarding my dogs and their health I am answered in detail. Each visit to Waters Edge is comforting, they explain procedures and cost prior to treatment so I know what I am dealing with, I would definitely recommend Waters edge animal hospital to everyone and anyone who cares for their pets as much as I care for Reggie and Baby!

The prices have become exorbitant. The base fee for an exam is now a whopping $146. Two shots for two pets was $450, up front. They make you pay with cash (yeah, right) or credit only - no checks - then charge an additional 3% for that. Lots of upselling of other tests, vaccines, and miscellaneous things to increase your bill. I like Dr. Pop but her staff and billing practices are making me start to look for a new vet clinic.

Terrible experience. The vet misdiagnosed husky and told pet owner the dog would die without surgery. Pet owner agreed to surgery due to the life threatening nature of the issue the vet diagnosed. When surgery was conducted, the vet found that she was in fact incorrect. There was no blockage in the intestine. The pet owner was called and informed that there was no blockage found, just swollen lymph nodes. She offered a spay "free of charge". The spay was accepted. When all was said and done a very sick dog had a major surgery conducted which was unnecessary. The spay was charged to the pet owner despite the pet owner being told that it would be "free of charge". The total cost of the surgery was Over $2,500. The dog received antibiotics and healed on her own at home. The dog was misdiagnosed. The surgery was unnecessary and the pet owner was forced to pay thousands for services, which were more detrimental to the pet than helpful. Never go here! They are in it for the money.

Took my dog to urgent care for poison ingestion. Their website says they treat this. They had no plan. Luckily I had contacted animal poison control previously. She called the number, gave them my case number and tried to charge me a crazy amount to do what the poison control said to do. I declined that service, but did purchase toxiban charcoal. They charged me $150 for this and I looked after the fact and found I could get it for $20 from a few different retailers.

Friendly staff, fairly cheap for an emergency vet. Their costs are actually lower then our old vet from from when we lived in the Twin Cities. They also don't nickel and dime you for every little thing like some vets will, and they are very open about what the cost of each procedures are before and during billing provided you inquiry about them. They went through the bill item for item when we ask before we paid anything. They are also open to scheduling same day appointments which then they do not charge you for the emergency visit prices. We found a lump on our cats shoulder one night, and they saw her at 9am the next morning. the vets are super gentle with out over wise very nervous kitty. I was pretty impressed about how they where able to handle her without the need for scruffing her when doing the exam. Something our last 2 vets would do for simple examination. Our cat is also on prescription food, and their prices on the food are about what it costs at other vets, and even on amazon.

We paid $145 fee to be seen, I got off work early to get to the appointment that got pushed back an hour. I had to wait with a cranky toddler and my dog an hour away from home. They wanted to charge us an astronomical amount of money for all these tests. Gave us antibiotics for my dog's foot and sent us home. They asked that we call them back in 10 days if our dogs foot had not gone down in size. It's now our 10th day and we called back for more antibiotics. The vet now wants us to come back because she thinks it's cancer... Instead of giving us more antibiotics.. I don't know if they understand that they're crippling people. I shouldn't have to pay a second time because you didn't do your job the first time

The focus of the establishment seems to be getting overpriced payment for the most possible work, not primarily caring for the animal or guiding the animal owner to the best possible care, just the most expensive care. Our animal was sick and needed to be seen. The vet tech we saw was very nice as she was following policy to take payment for any procedure before anything was done. 3 separate payments in one visit and we never actually met the dr. We ended up back again a few days later. Saw the same very friendly vet tech who followed policy to get payment for overpriced procedures before anything was done. 3 payments total throughout the visit again. Still never met the Dr. We will not return to Waters Edge again.

Living up north in MN has some drawbacks as veterinary care is limited and becoming short staffed. When all 3 of my local vets turned me away for an emergency, I went to Waters Edge AH in Duluth. They didn't hesitate to take me in and assess my pet. Unfortunately it was that time for the animal as she was old and sickly, and the staff kindly and patiently helped her cross the rainbow bridge. I wouldn't hesitate to bring an animal here again.

My dog is very sketchy when it comes to trimming his nails. They recommended he be asleep with the anesthesia. I was charged for a $90 pre exam and a $60 allergy test that never happened and on top of that, the bill itself was $800. they came in, put my dog to sleep, and trimmed his nails. But I got charged a lot of fancy fees. Don’t recommend..

Do not EVER go to this place; fraudulent business practices and horrendous manager, named Silva Pop. We called to ask questions and were pressured into coming in the same day; without being told same day appointments are considered "urgent walk ins" and they charge $245 for just walking in the door without doing anything. Our fault for not asking questions, I called to let them know there was misunderstandings about this and he said "too bad that is your fault for not asking what you were paying for upfront." absolutely horrendous.I should have read these reviews but we had gone here in the past, before this man starting managing the place, and it was much better & not like how it was now; only transactional and only care about trying to take as much money as possible from you. All they cared about during the whole visit was trying to get us to pay as much as we could and thank god we turned down their excessive amounts of testing costing upwards of 800 bucks for a dog with a sore leg.....at the end they prescribed "pain meds" for 70 dollars without even telling us how much they were and just literally asked for our card. OH AND GET THIS, the same pain meds literally everywhere else can be purchased for 33.99!!!!!!! They literally did nothing, and could have told us to ice his leg and give him these meds over the phone if they truly cared about our dog.We legit got scammed and thankfully only for a few hundred, rather than what it seems a lot of people get sucked into in the upper hundreds to thousands. I told him on phone looks like the reviews are right and I also heard about the lawsuits and he said " oh yeah everyone is suing us and complaining, blah blah." this should tell you everything you need to know about this establishment and I am guessing they will be shut down soon enough, thank god.DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR FUR BABIES HERE EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I will be sharing this horrendous experience with everyone I know and everywhere I possibly can. Please do the same & message me if you want to join forces as I am thinking about creating a public facebook group as there seems to be MANY people who have been taken advantage of and scammed by them.

I am very satisfied with Waters Edge. Dr. Pop helped my dog with her allergies on the very first visit, and I had been to several others who said there was nothing more they could do. My dog is now healthy and happy! The staff is wonderful and caring and very helpful. I love the extended hours. I just can't say enough good things about the staff and services at Waters Edge.Theresa Pritchett

We love the staff at Waters Edge! They have been so helpful. We had 2 dogs get in a fight one who got tore up very badly. I rushed her to Waters Edge. They just scooped her right up and cared for her like she was their own! We would not have our little Linnie Louise still if it wasn't for them. They are extremely accommodating, helpful, and friendly!

Do not take your dog to this vet. When we first got there the front desk was very unprofessional and disorganized. After checking in, we had to wait 45 minutes to get into the exam room. Once in the exam room we waited another 25 minutes for the vet. One of the assistants came into our room and was surprised to see us because they forgot about us in there. After the vet examined my dog, she said he needed his toenail to be removed. The estimate for this procedure was $852! Keep in mind that at our regular vet it was $700 to remove 2 tumors! The prices here are outrageous and the service was terrible. I will never be coming here again. UPDATE: We took our dog to our normal vet and it cost $62 to fix his toenail!!!!! Waters Edge is a SCAM

If you want to have your pet killed asap bring it to this place. I heard so many reviews and bad bad reputations for 7 years of this evil place. Multiple people have told me their experience that Dr pop is money hungry and doesn’t care about animals. Many animals have died here and this place should be shut down ASAP. The workers here are not licensed to save animals. beware!!!!

I work in human Healthcare, and know some issues working with the public. The serious problem of non payment of bills is frustrating (crippling to a small business). Skipped or overlooked appointments is a waste of time for everyone. No problem paying up front, I get the difference between urgent/emergent. The care my pet had there was excellent. I was provided options and choices (wish I had that for people). My problem: I have a sudden trip out of town, and called to reschedule pre-paid appointment. HAVE TO PAY ENTIRE AMOUNT TO RESCHEDULE. That is over the top. For emergency, yes I would still go, but nothing else.
Sue Kochsiek
As always our pets had excellent care today!! We love Waters Edge. They’re very patient, kind, compassionate people who love all animals. We’re truly grateful to have such a great team of professionals in our area. Thank you so much for always going above and beyond !!

From the reviews it looks like they used to be a pretty good place to take your vet, but just like most of the other recent reviewers, I would STRONGLY recommend to take your pet somewhere else.My pet was having issues a couple months ago and I couldn't get her into our normal vet for a month, so I brought her here. When I called I said I wanted to make her an appointment to get in that week and they said they could actually get us in that afternoon if it worked for us. It did, so we went in. Paid a small fortune for tests that would have been much, much, much cheaper at our normal vet, but the real kicker was that they charged me an additional fee for doing a same-day appointment. I didn't even need a same-day, nor did they tell me there was any extra fee. I understand they're an emergency/urgent care vet, but come on. If the service was anything great, I wouldn't have batted an eye, but it wasn't.Had to call back later to put the same cat down, and asked them for a quote ahead of time - over 3 times the cost of our normal vet. Had qualms about their office being my cat's last memory, but also felt like I didn't have any other options given it was going to take a month to get into our regular vet and I didn't want her to suffer that long. Luckily afriend told me about BluePearl, and I was able to take her there instead (FYI, at 2.5 times less of a cost, and their staff made the process as nice as possible given current Covid restrictions).Seriously, don't go here unless it's an emergency during daytime hours and you can't wait for BluePearl to open.

I find the entire staff caring and helpful. The doctors and assistants are knowledgeable, fast and skilled at procedures and do what is best for my cats. I recently had a very sick guinea pig that I really loved a lot; unfortunately he had to be put to sleep. Everyone realized, it was not "just a guinea pig" to me, rather, Charlie was a wonderful animal that had personality and it was a great loss to me. The entire staff treated me with respect and empathy as well as sent me a sympathy card. I love this clinic and would not go anywhere else for the care of my animals.

If there was a rating for no stars, they would have gotten that. When taking your pet there for an emergency, beware! If your animal is dying, they will still try to get every penny out of you before your animal dies on the table. They won't even admit that your pet is dying and do the right thing to help your beloved pet pass peacefully. This has happened to my family twice! Fool me once, shame on them, fool me twice, shame on me! It won't happen a third time and I would never recommend this vet for any emergency, ever!

Water's Edge Animal Hospital is an excellent place for all your veterinary needs. I've taken my German Shepherd there in emergency situations and regular office visits.Dr. Pop's staff was very accommodating to get us in during the emergency visits. Their extended hours and prices are very reasonable and more than competitive with the local after hours emergency clinic here in Duluth.Dr. Pop and her staff are friendly, knowledgeable and the facility is extremely clean. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for an emergency clinic or a regular vet.

Our dog Astro was hit by a car when we were on vacation around Virginia, MN. After calling a number of vets who said they couldn’t help, we were lucky enough to find Water’s Edge. The staff were so kind and gracious - and pandemic careful - that we felt completely secure in the care he was getting. They said he would be in a cast for 4-8 weeks and at 4 weeks, after following their instructions, he was good to go! Thanks to the Waters Edge team for helping us so capably during a scary time!

Dr. Savannah is fantastic, has a great bedside manner with the animals, clearly cares about what she does, and is great at communicating clearly with animal owners. We've taken both our cat and dog here for varying purposes and always had a positive experience with them. One thing that particularly impressed me, is even when they're very busy you never feel like they're rushing through caring for your animal to get to the next one in line - it's a reassuring feeling that the patient comes first, not a schedule.

We bring our dogs Spike and Stuart in for regular check-ups, shots, nail trimming and more. Spike has also had surgeries at Waters Edge. We have nothing but positive things to say about this business and their staff. They are professional, kind and very reasonably priced. We have gone to them for many years and will continue to do so. 5 Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I had to bring my puppy there for emergency care and of course they were the only place open at the time. I ran in and explained that my puppy was having an emergency. He looked like he was near death and they had us wait 50 minutes in the room BEFORE HE WAS SEEN. THIS WAS AN EMERGENCY, and they care to tell me that there are other animals with appointments before him. I WAS FURIOUS. It was around $700 JUST for blood test and an X-ray to find out what was wrong. They said that they “thought” he had something stuck in his intestines, but his xrays didn’t show that there was. The dr just had a “hunch” and exploratory surgery was needed. They told me they needed $4200 for his emergency surgery and if I didn’t have the money they wouldn’t do the surgery and my dog would die. I don’t just have an extra $4200 laying around the house. I called the other ER vet on Michigan St. who opened an hour later and they told me they could do his surgery for half the price. When I told them I wanted to leave they said my dog would die in the car on the ride down and she slammed the door in my face making me feel even worse about the situation. Here I was balling my eyes out because I can’t pay for my dogs surgery, and the vet tech slams the door in my face because I wanted to take him someplace that could do it for half of what they were charging me. Well then they gladly told me they would do the surgery for $3500. Magically they can just drop the price down so I didn’t go somewhere else, clearly they just wanted my money and didn’t care about my dog what so ever. I ended up applying for an emergency credit card and paying for it that way. Even better, after I got my puppy back, they sent him home with FLEAS. He went to the vet with out fleas, and came home with them. I came back and ask the girl at the front desk if they had any solutions for fleas, she told me they would need to charge me for ANOTHER exam and the doctor would have to take a look at him. I said absolutely not, went to petsmart & got some flea medication and treated it myself with no help from them. Great place. THEY ARE THE WORST PLACE I have EVER been to. So rude and cruel and all they care about is the money. THEY ARE MONEY HUNGRY!!!! That place is such a scam. I would never ever suggest that place to anyone. DON’T EVER BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. I also had to request that they send ALL of my puppy’s medical records to his insurances company not once, not twice, but 3 times because they wouldn’t do it. I finally had to go in there in person and get his medical records and fax it MYSELF because they would not do it. I had such an AWFUL time with this place, they should truly be ashamed of themselves. ** don’t go by the good reviews on this page, they send out incentives to people who post GOOD reviews, they are not accurate. Take my word and never go to this place, you’ll truly regret it.**

I decided to bring my cat here a few days ago. I am new to Duluth and my regular vet is 2 hours away. My cat was loosing balance in his back legs and couldn’t walk right. This place wanted $700 to run tests and xrays to maybe figure out what was wrong with him. I was very upset because with the virus going around, my boyfriend is laid off and I’m worried about how we were gonna pay rent let alone a $700 vet bill. I ended up taking my cat to my regular vet in Garrison MN and they know what was wrong right away, decided they wanted to keep him for a week. All said and done, my bill from Garrison will only be $100. $700 to run tests on a cat is a scam. They just wanted to take advantage of me and my money. I’ll never go here again.

The WORST place I have ever taken my companion! I was treated like an ATM machine, charged $150 for a SCHEDULED OFFICE VISIT, NON-EMERGENCY, told it was most likely CANCER but would need to be tested and the testing would cost $432 but was "in house, for convenience". The LARGE girl who assisted me smelled of body odor or unwashed clothes, I can't say which or both. The "doctor" immediately put my very playful and amiable to 99% of people, immediately on edge. He backed away from her touch and growled in disapproval, so they muzzled him! FIRST TIME IN 8.5 YEARS OF LIFE and has never been necessary at NUMEROUS other appointments, traumatic or mundane. This place and the people who run it are of a garbage quality that lacks any other definition. I don't know how they stay in business PREYING on loving pet-parents and overcharging/price gouging the pocketbook. Conclusion: I went somewhere else, was treated very well, my boy's histacytoma is NOT CANCER, and the aspiration, testing, visit, AND ANTIBIOTICS were $101.84 !!Water's Edge is trash. We recently switched vets to Waters Edge. We LOVE how personable the staff is. Dr. Pop is so knowledgeable, treats us like our pets are our children, down to earth, approachable, AND ALWAYS AVAILABLE! Seriously, what vet is open ALL DAY? Every time we have set an appointment we get in that same day, or the next.
Jordyn Troop
Thank you for your kindness and thoroughness in diagnosing our dog's pancreatitis. Everyone was so wonderful and kind. They really care about the animals they treat. Our choices were listed out for us so we could decide the best course of action for what we could afford under their advice and guidance. I never felt pressured to pay for anything excessive or unnecessary under the conditions.
Alissa Postal

Kim Bakken
If there was a rating for no stars, they would have gotten that. When taking your pet there for an emergency, beware! If your animal is dying, they will still try to get every penny out of you before your animal dies on the table. They won't even admit that your pet is dying and do the right thing to help your beloved pet pass peacefully. This has happened to my family twice! Fool me once, shame on them, fool me twice, shame on me! It won't happen a third time and I would never recommend this vet for any emergency, ever!
Tim Rooney
I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! They have no concern for your pet, and will do whatever they can to get you to spend as much as possible. After bringing our 15 year old dog in last year, they slowly got us to spend over $2000 in increments over 2 days. Then, they would not renew her her daily prescription without another "office visit" every 6 months. Again, we are talking about a 15 year old dog that we love dearly and want to be as comfortable as possible in her last years. They couldn't care less about that though, so we will be going elsewhere. Also , if you check their prices you will be amazed how much extra you will be paying verses other reputable Vets. We called them for euthanasia of our 18 year old cat last year and they were easily 3-4 times as much as the other places locally. I am having them email us our dogs records, and hope to never hear from them again.

I believe this is a trend at many vet care clinics, but it frustrates me that in order to get my dog's rabies shot, I have to pay $50.00 for an annual exam before the rabies shot can be given. My dog is joyful, physically active, a perfect weight, has a good appetite, has no lumps or bumps.....if he has any health concerns, I feel I would be aware of them. Since I am paying for my dog's health care and have no insurance requirements, why on earth am I being forced to buy medical services that are unheeded? looks like he will be getting his 15 to 20 dollar rabies shot elsewhere with out the added 50 dollar Mandatory check up fee.

My family has known Dr. Pop and her family for years. She has always provided quality veterinary care to our many dogs and cats. In 2016, our older dog, Marcello, experienced many health issues. With Dr. Pop's and Dr. Giese's help over many months, we are happy to say our Italian Greyhound friend is doing quite well again! In March 2017, our dog, Gracie, needed a tooth extracted. When I called Waters Edge about her, Silviu, the office manager went out of his way to be extra helpful. He made arrangements for me to be able to bring her to the clinic very early in the morning so that I myself would not be late to work. While any veterinarian's service at any clinic is costly, we know that when we bring our furry friends to Waters Edge that they will always receive the compassionate and quality care they deserve! Thank you Dr. Pop and team for treating our furry friends and us like family and doing everything you can to keep them as happy and healthy for as long as possible!

Waters edge is always there for my fur babies. The staff is amazing and knowledgeable when it has come to my pets health. I wont take my pets any where else unless it is referred by the vet on staff. Thank you so much for all you have done for priss, lu, itty, her and all the others. You are an an amazing staff.

I had a very positive experience at Waters Edge Animal Hospital. The staff were very friendly and it seemed like they are well educated. Dr. Savannah saved my cat's life and explained what she was doing through the whole process. They updated me on how my cat was doing through her whole stay there and did everything they could to help her. I would definitely recommend them and will be bringing all my animals there

They have seen 2 of my dogs in emergency situations. They are the only vet in the area who has never turned me away or said they couldn't see us the same day I called with urgent request. In both cases Dr. Pop was a life saver. I'm very grateful to everyone at Waters Edge Animal Hospital.

Used for an emergent UTI situation. Seemed spendy but I get it as we were a walk in. Vet care not the issue. The problem was when the medication was out of this world expensive we asked them to send the RX to a local pharmacy. They were almost offended at even the idea. Huffed and puffed and made it into a big deal. Then charged $15 more per RX to send them to a local pharmacy. Never once has my normal vet done that. Under 60 bucks for meds at local pharmacy. They wanted more than double that for the same exact meds. I guess maybe I should apologize for being a smart consumer or possibly just pay substantially more out of the goodness of my heart. I mean come on. Offer the med. If I want to get it somewhere else to save money don’t charge me extra and act like we’re jerks. Doubt I’ll go back.
Brittany Vogt
Do not go here if your pet needs help. They are judgemental incompetent and just plain rude. They would not see my dying dog until we paid $300 up front and they still didn't do all they could. They could of saved her life but they didn't. They sent her home with us with just a few meds and a good luck. She was horribly dehydrated from diarrhea and was not taking food. She should have been kept over night and given an IV for meds and fluids but they refused. They didn't inform us well enough on how to take care of her until we drilled them with questions. I am appalled.
Kristine Stainbrook
Don’t use this vet. They over charge when you are most vulnerable with your pets. I was overcharged in past and stopped using them. A family member just used them and was over charged . When called to voice their concerns was yelled at by the manager saying it’s your fault for not asking questions. Very rude in his manner. Check reviews before ever going there. It’s crazy….

I felt this was a very expensive experience for some simple ear scratching in my cat. I brought her in suspecting ear mites. The examination alone cost $69 which felt on the highers side, but we proceedes. The vet tech said an ear cytology would likely be done to confirm mites, which was to be expected. No ear mites were found, just dirty ears, but the doc put her on antibiotics anyway ($69 MORE). He also wanted to have her on a feline flea, tick, mite, and worm defense product even though she's never had problems with any. When I found out the price would be another $63, I asked the tech if we could wait on that. She didn't really give an option to opt out even when asked and in not wanting to cause an argument, I paid it. So, my cats dirty ears cost me $300. The Dr. and tech were kind and good with my cat, but it was an uncomfortably expensive experience for me.

Hard to put into words the care you will receive here. Dr. Pop and her staff are compassionate and they go above and beyond to treat the animals they see - even if it means sacrificing time with their families. You will not find a more beautiful and well run facility in Duluth. This is a place that treats your pet (and you!) like family. The prices are competitive, and you get what you pay for - quality and comprehensive care. I'm not sure if it's up and running yet, but I got a tour of an amazing pet funeral home at the facility also when it was still under construction - I only wish there had been such a warm and peaceful place when I needed to say goodbye to a four-legged family member. Five stars all the way.

Thank you waters edge for always being able to see and help my family and I’s pets right away and always showing compassion. The staff here work long hard hours to assure pets get the best care they can give! I have brought my cats, dogs and even mice here and the vet and techs are always so welcoming. I appreciate you guys at Waters Edge!

Waters Edge has wonderful group of friendly and caring staff. Above all, I was pleasantly surprised by Dr. Pop's knowledge and compassion for her patients. She has been extremely helpful with addressing my concerns with my pet chickens when most vets just turned me away stating they simply do not work on farm animals. I will continue to seek help here in the future. Highly recommend this place!~Vlad

WORST experience EVER! The guy running it should NEVER be allowed to interact with the public!! He is very unethical and unprofessional. The sad thing is the vet herself is good, but because of her husband, they have lost a ton of business. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone!

I honestly can't believe how blatantly they are out for money. It honestly felt like going to a sketchy car mechanic. I brought in two animals to be seen for different reasons. My mother was concerned her cat was in immediate pain from a possible tooth ache or a uti. I paid for the exam fee, still not actually sure what that includes if anything more than just looking at the animal. They stated that they didn't believe it was a tooth ache but then went on about blood pressure (which they'd charge $100 to actually check. Never been charged to have blood pressure CHECKED before as I assume its in a typical vets exam fee) they also had a slew of $800 worth of other seemingly unrelated tests they felt were necessary. Given that he's got an appointment set up with his regular vet I declined. Kitty is apparently fine (still not necessarily convinced 🙄)The other patient was my puppy she happened to break her leg the poor thing. The most astonishing thing was that they attempted to tack on over $500 worth of blood tests for tick borne disease testing?!?! For a BROKEN LEG on a dog who gets regular flee and tick treatments. I won't even get in to how they attempted to justify the cost of a splint on a toy breed puppy being $800 because of "all the tape and cotton they use"I will say that I had to bring my moms dog in 2 years ago for sudden onset pulmonary edema. They were incredibly helpful and kind. He had an exam, a shot of a diuretic, an x-ray, and meds to go home with as well as some prescription food. All of that was around $300 two years ago and they didn't try and tack on a bunch of unrelated and unnecessary tests and procedures. I am not sure if there has been a change in ownership or if the vet is now in some financial trouble but something has massively changed.I'm still honestly a bit in shock that they tried to charge me for $500 worth of unrelated and completely unnecessary tests for a broken leg with a straight face. Honestly I wish I would have left at that moment, it shows that they can't have any sort of care or love for the animals in any real way. Even if spending thousands isn't an issue for you I implore you to find another vet based on that alone. I can't believe that someone who engages in such shady and unethical practices could possibly provide compassionate care to an animal.

If I could give them 100 stars I would. My dog got into Deoxidizer, and just with that they were amazing. Everyone was so friendly, they kept telling me it was going to be ok, and they truly cared about making sure my baby was ok. Not only that, I wasn't sure if my other dog had gotten into too. So they were nice enough to give me a 2 for 1 deal and treat my other dog as well. I am absolutely switching to their clinic, I can't even tell you guys how grateful I am. Thank you so much!!!!!

Edited to say: Waters Edge has since taken down ALL reviews from their fb page to hide all the bad experience. They have also LIED to the Better Business Bureau and told them I was not a client there in an attempt to stop our review from being posted!!!On 10/28 my bf took our two dogs, to Waters Edge for check up and to be tested for tick borne diseases. According to Waters Edge, both dogs came back positive for Lymes Disease as well as another tick borne illness and treatment was recommended. Trusting this vet we decided on the treatment of a month long course of antibiotics. At the end of this appt., my bf called me and told me his they charged him $753.24.When he got here I was shocked. I did the math and $441 of the $753.24 bill was just for two antibiotics! Our large lab (Max) was giving a prescription of 100mg Doxycycline (112 pills) and the cost of this was $345! Our smaller dog (Frances) was given 50mg of Minocycline (56 pills) and we were charged $96 for this! I knew these numbers were not correct so I began searching online for costs as well as calling other vets. The other clinics I called were appalled at how much we had been over charged and quoted us VERY different prices for the EXACT SAME prescription... for Max, rather than the Waters Edge price of $345, we were quoted the price of $83, that is a difference of $262! As for Frances, we were told that Minocycline was not even the preferred method of treatment for Lymes Disease (however is a cheaper medicine than Doxy in most cases) and they would rather treat her with the better medicine (Doxycycline) for this, we were quoted a price of $33 for this.... now this was the better medicine than the Minocycline that Waters Edge prescribed us, and STILL CHEAPER than the $96 that Waters Edge was trying to charge us for the Minocycline! In total Waters Edge charged us $441 for two prescriptions, that a vet less than 5 minutes away from them said they would charge us $116 for... that is a difference of $325! Insane! We immediately called Waters Edge and confronted them about this. We asked that we were able to return the medication or for a price match on what the other vet quoted us. We were told they do not price match and although they weren't "supposed to", they would give us a refund for the cost of the medication and we could get it elsewhere. When asked why the cost at Waters Edge was so vastly different, the male office manager told us "thats just the cost of the medication, its expensive" even though we were getting the same exact thing (and even a better medication for Frances) at another vet for much less. My bf then had to make another trip to this vet to deal with returning the medication. While there, he again asked why we were charged so much. At this point, two of the employees admitted that they knew that the cost of this medication was more than it should be and they get complaints on it often, however, the owner of the clinic did not care and set the price that high because they want more money. Following that, we then to one of the vets we called for a price comparison and paid the $116 for the SAME/better medication!Upon my boyfriends arrival home, I reviewed Waters Edge on their Facebook page. My review was obviously similar to this one and the following day, we received a phone call from someone from the clinic complaining about our review. We were told now that we were not over charged for the medication and that is just the cost of it, "Doxycycline is very expensive and that is just the cost of it" they insisted we must have gotten something different from the other vet clinic and that is why it was so much cheaper, however that was not the case as we got the same exact medication for our lab and an even better medication for our beagle than Waters Edge had prescribed. We were also asked to take our review down because it was not correct. However, it very obviously is correct. I have invoices from both vet clinics to show the price difference as well as the fact we received the exact same medication from the new clinic we visited.

Awesome veterinary service. Dr. Pop is one of the best vets that we have ever had. She is attentive, loves the animals and works for the best of the pets. We've had Dr. Pop as our vet for both dogs and cats for years and followed her as she started her business. Also urgent care has been invaluable when problems have happened outside of regular business hours.
Crystal Shirley
My dog was very well cared for by a very kind vet and staff. I will definitely continue to bring my pets here. I highly recommend them.

Dr. Pop is a wonderful doctor and WOULD have a wonderful business if it wasn't for Silviu Pop. At first the staff was very compassionate and seemed to genuinely care for the wellbeing of our animals (and I believe most of them are). However, the passing of my dog showed how money-oriented Waters Edge is. Our dog passed away after surgery in the care of Waters Edge but even before we were given a chance to comprenhend the passing of our family member we were given the bill as if our dog hadn't passed away an hour ago, in a way that i woudn't describe as empathetic. Overall, I found the way Silviu Pop handling things lacking of human decency. Because of this, I do not reccomend this business.

Rachel LaQuier

Clean friendly facility. GREAT vet techs and staff. The Dr was wonderful and open and explained everything. We were able to come in with 2hr notice and had full work up done and diagnosed our problem. Thank you so much!

Absolutely irate right now. I called to give them a heads up that we were enroute with our dog who got hit by a car and her skin on her food was peeled back exposing the tendons requiring stitches. The lady on the phone said they close in an hour and half and said we should go to a different vet and refused to help us. Since when do vets or medical places turn people away during business hours anticipating they close in and hour and half. I called at 1230 pm and they are scheduled open til 2pm. Can you imagine calling 911 and the police told you they can't help you because their shift is over in an hour and a half. I am absolutely disgusted and disheartened by this careless disregard for people and animals. I am shocked at how absolutely mindblowing it was to be turned away like that! Absolutely disgusting.

We have had absolutely wonderful experiences at Waters edge. From the moment you walk in, it's a calm peaceful environment. It smells wonderful, and is decorated really unique. My animals pick up on the calm energy this vet clinic has, and the calm and caring staff. I highly recommend this animal hospital.
Patrick Kindler
The staff are very nice and they will help you. However they are overpriced and try to sell you things you don't need. This is more about making money than helping animals in my opinion. Really unfortunate and I felt bad for the staff they had trying to upsell/oversell.
H Jensen
I would never go to this place for any type of assistance with my animals again. All this place cares about is money! The vet was rude and the tech was even worse. Hitting me with an almost $1000 bill to do some simple lab work to see if my precious baby had a bladder infection was outrageous. Not to mention your four legged family members could be on their death bed and they won’t even take a look at them until they have money in their pockets! Sickening

Three different occasions with three different urgent care needs and everytime we got the same level of care of professionalism from them. This was Trigger's third unexpected trip, first pancreatitis, second broken nail, and just this recently a possible HGE diagnosis. The staff was so helpful and professional, keeping me in the loop with his care and the route they were taking for his treatments, being up front about all their abilities and overnight care. This past urgent care appointment was a Monday hospitalization, very hectic day already for them being closed Sunday, but they gave him everything they were capable of to care for my dog. Very appreciative for the two times his life could've been at risk if not treated accurately and quickly. Can't thank them enough, but can give a 5 star review.

I have been bringing Stella to Waters Edge since she was a puppy (12 weeks). The staff is friendly and educated in their practice and have sure made Stella feel comfortable on every visit! You can tell they truly enjoy what they do. I will continue to bring Stella to Waters Edge!

My fiance and I brought our vomiting puppy here yesterday and they were doing a great job with helping. Then we do some blood work and a xray which for one xray with one view and the blood work was 269 dollars. Then they tell me he needs emergency surgery which will cost roughly 3800 thousand dollars. Which obviously was out of the question because we couldn't afford it. So we went with the simple treatment which was some meds to coat his stomach and some wet dog food. Then they tell us he had 8 to 24 hours to live if he doesn't get the surgery. Which at this point we were extremely upset. They offered no help after that, no second xray from another view after he ate. Nothing. We sat in the exam room for a little over an hour trying to find a solution calling every vet in the area. I ended up going and getting a second opinion at affiliated emergency er which did 3 xrays they were so much more helpful. The results showed my dog was perfectly healthy except needing the meds to coat his stomach from all the vomiting. So we called waters egde and set up a meeting because obviously we were furious and wanted a refund not of the whole service as he needed the exam and the blood work. We only requested the refund for the xrays that's showed a gas bubble from only one angle and wouldn't offer more then one. Said they didn't wanna offer anymore help because we were emotional and brought up money when we had to pay for another exam and more tests and xrays. They refused a refund, and showed no compassion. Waters egde is a money hungry place and I will not be returning here.

Brought both my dogs in for their first time, to get exams and vaccinations. I was very happy with how our experience was. It was very convenient with a 6pm appt for both at the same time, so I didn't have to try to work around daycare and work schedules.

We came at 845PM and they wouldn’t help us because the Doctor was on the way out. Staff that won’t help an animal because the Doctor wanted to leave early. Our seven month old puppy broke open the suture site from her spay surgery last week. It needed to be stitched back together. They wouldn’t even look at her.

Long story short, they did a c-section on my dog. One puppy survived. On the way home from the vet my dog had another puppy in the car!!! We didn't see it in time & the pup died. Not sure how the hell a vet missed a puppy! When I called about the alive pup's constipation, I was told to wiggle a thermometer in his butt. That's it. Found out from an online group with vets/breeders other remedies. Not returning.

Im not the one that typically takes the dog tothe vet, but what a SHELL GAME. As statedby othet reviews, the $ 98 fee is just a tipTo get you on the door. They spend literally3 minutes with the dog to tell you moreTests and xrays are needed. Then comeBack with a whopping $700 estimste which seems the norm. I ended up with 3 visaCharges for the same visit as they keepcoming back for more money and wontPrescribe anything until they milkYou. They upsell you packages basedOn what people will pay. They even callIt the gold standad... it feels like the techsWork on commission. Reminds me of theBad old days of automobile serviceAdvisors maximizing the $$$ per customerNot a expert on vets to be sure. But thisPlace got my spidy sense up.Ask about next steps and what resolutionYou are getting upfront is my advice

My sister just brough her dog here. They charged her 500 dollars and sent her home with the dog. The dog died like an hour later. They didn't tell her the dog was close to dying. Worst place ever. Shame on them for charging all that money for food and an IV and sending home a dog they would have been perfectly aware wasn't going to make it.

I have known the Dr. Pop and her family for many years, and have interacted with their entire staff a number of times. They are a great group of people who care deeply about the animals they work to heal. Additionally, they are wonderful, gracious, and generous souls in many aspects of their lives, including their professional work. I strongly recommend them.

Our 2 dogs have been seeing Dr. Pop for 2 years and have always received 5 star care. We recently were in Az. when our Lab was bitten by a brown recluse spider. He needed immediate attention and after seeing tbe Vet in LakeHavasu, we called Dr. Pop for a second opinion. We talked several times on the phone (no charge) while still in Az. and know that the Waters Edge team is commited to their patients and their owners. It's the only place to go.

Nice place, staff is good and seem to actually care....... But, the meds are incredibly more expensive than most other places. My advice is to try and just get prescriptions from them if they will without charging an arm and a leg and then go order them online or from somewhere else. The meds I paid for today are 4 times more expensive than what I could have sourced online. If they won't write a prescription without a huge fee, go somewhere else if you can.*To the response below.* I understand not being able to compete with online prices, but the margins are so much higher that I can't recommend someone else going to Water's Edge when other local businesses are priced more competitively. I also was not a fan of how easily you pushed medicine's that were borderline unnecessary with little explanation. I can get probiotics for my dog at many other local businesses for close to half the cost of what I received from Water's Edge. In the end my dogs visit costed me over $300 and no solution was given, the "Let's just try these" approach was taken.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE place! The cost and estimates are insane! For a cut toe they wanted $900, we said no, got a few pain meds ,for way to much, to give to the dog to heal at home.( which he did heal just fine w/o the surgery they said he NEEDED. Made me feel like a bad pet owner for not being able to fork over $900. THEN they “diagnosed” the same dog with a blocked intestine, and said he needed surgery or he will DIE in 12 hours... and they where taking us off the list as a Client because the dog received ONE rabies shot somewhere else and that we would be charged ER prices for every visit from now on. Anyway the surgery was $4000...we had to have our dog put down because we didn’t have any other options. He was a little over a year old. I would never recommend this place unless you want to lose a loved family member, get treated like filth and get your bank account drained.

The staff are very nice and they will help you. However they are overpriced and try to sell you things you don't need. This is more about making money than helping animals in my opinion. Really unfortunate and I felt bad for the staff they had trying to upsell/oversell.

This is an awesome place to bring your animals because , they are the most caring place I have ever seen. They make sure that the best care is given to the animals they serve! I was just in there for my extremely sick puppy and I don’t have a single complaint! They took every step to make sure my he was okay and saved his life!

I made an appointment at Waters edge up on Central entrance about a year ago for my cat, not only was I made to wait for over an hour to get my cat seen, I showed up on time for my appointment, but I was charged an "emergency fee" for being there for my first time. Mind you, I had made the appointment in advance, I was not a walk in. but it was over a 200$ charge. Now why would they have this show up on the bill as an "emergency fee" when it was not an emergency? Why not call it what it is, an enrollment fee? This made me very suspicious and made me wonder what else they are making up so that they can overcharge unknowing customers. Sounds like tax fraud if you ask me, mislabeling charges or fees.

Last February, 2015, we had a very tragic experience at Waters Edge: Our beloved 10-year old Maltese, Pudgy, was prescribed Rimadyl to ease the pain of a back sprain. No written instructions or warnings were provided with the pills. It was only after Pudgy had a stroke that I began to research and realized that it is very possible that Rimadyl was the cause of Pudgy’s stroke. By then it was too late, and the ensuing seizures were so severe we had to put him to sleep.Naturally, I am concerned that no one else loses their beloved pet. If you take your pet to Waters Edge, be sure that you receive all medications with written instructions listing possible side effects. I suggest you do your own research before administering any drugs to your pet.Dr Pop is certain that Rimadyl had nothing to do with Pudgy's stroke and seizures. I am not so sure and WOULD NOT have given Pudgy ANY medication if I had done my research right away. It was given for pain and I would have tried to keep him comfortable without medication while his back was healing. I believe Dr. Pop was too free in prescribing medication when it was not really necessary.I might still have my dear Pudgy by my side at this moment if I had been more cautious. I really miss him. Just be careful. Protect your pet.Otherwise, Dr. Pop and staff are very nice and helpful.

The entire staff went above and beyond for our little puppy. We are forever grateful for the compassion and love they showed her while she was in their care. She wouldn't be here today if it wasnt for them! **Elsa**

If there were 100 star review, I would give to the Water's Edge Animal Vet Clinic. I have taken my many rescue Cats and Dogs , and we have followed Dr. Pop...for 15 years....any Vet clinic is going to have good and bad reviews....from the heart , and experience in knowing Ms. Tirzah and staff....I have to honestly say, I trust her with all my animals and their health. She is honest, and knowledgeable , they take the time to explain and answer all my questions till I'am sure to make the right decisions..... and will always give to me needed information, so that I might make a well informed choice...When it comes to the health and welfare of my beloved pets, Water's Edge is my 1st choice.... they are timely, empathetic , and have always gone the extra mile for me.....the atmosphere is bright, and clean, we are given excellent service and care.......There is no kick back or discount given for this review......just the honest facts, and the years given....speaks for itself........A Sincere , and heartfelt Thank you to Dr. Pop and Staff, may the relationship continue for years to come, because I'am counting on it.....Fran Hom, and the animals she rescues.....

I've used Water's Edge in the past and although my experience with them was fine, I'm disheartened by the fact that they're currently soliciting positive reviews on their main page to hide the negative ones they've gotten.I'd think that a better use of their time would be to improve the office managers people skills, re-evaluate their price points and hire quality support staff. But I guess trying to fool the public, rather than actually improve things makes more sense.
